Leonard is a figure and landscape fine art photographer, who specializes in works on paper utilizing various printmaking processes. Philosophy: Leonard Metcalf’s proactive interest in rugged adventure pursuits coupled with an intrinsic natural awareness for nature in its pure form combined with the motivation to seek the less frequented destinations globally is an underpinning feature of this artists work. He is a self motivated photographer who plans meticulously each of his outings into each of the Wilderness areas that are his portfolios. The artists dedicated planning combined with his keen focus upon detail ensures that each print is a ‘signature print’. The quality of his work and subject matter reflect the solitude and absoluteness of these Wilderness areas. It is easy to imagine immersing yourself in the pools, running water and damp ferns whilst being shrouded by mists and rain whilst hearing the beat of the wings provided by the colourfully rich fauna and smelling the earthly vapour rising to tantalise your senses. This crystallised into a formal education in the field of photography where Leonard earned a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts majoring in Photography from the City Art Institute, The NSW Institute of Arts (now COFA at UNSW) and has since gone on to earn the distinction as a Master Fine Art photographer. Len’s formal training includes a Graduate Diploma in Art Education and a Masters Degree in Adult Education.Accolades: Leonard Metcalf’s Fine Art Photography has been collected by patrons on a global scale with fine examples hanging in the United States, Europe and Australasia.
